Ingredients

  • shortening
  • brown sugar
  • egg
  • milk
  • vanilla
  • flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • cinnamon
  • old fashioned oats
  • chocolate chips

See exact quantities in recipe card below.

Instructions

These cookies come together in a flash! Be sure and watch the video below to see the recipe in action!

Prep your pans and preheat the oven just like you always do. ๐Ÿ™‚ In an electric mixer or with a hand held mixer on medium speed beat together the shortening, sugar, egg, milk and vanilla. Whisk together the flour, soda, salt and cinnamon and then beat into the mixture at low speed until smooth. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded Tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart and bake! That is it!

Tips

  • Oats - Use Old Fashioned Rolled Oats for this recipe. This will give you a chewy and thick cookie.
  • Parchment vs Silicone - I personally love parchment paper for these cookies. Silicone mats tend to make cookies spread a bit. And for this recipe I like a thick style.
  • Chocolate Chips - This is a personal choice! For this cookie I prefer Semi Sweet. But if you are a milk chocolate fan add those instead!
  • Done - You will know they are done when they are no longer shiny on top. DO not over bake!

Storage

Oh my! These cookies will go fast! But if not, just keep them in an airtight container for a few days! I hope you love them!

The flavor is delicious but they are definitely not thick! Turned out flat as a pancake- I ended up adding more flour and oats to get a thicker cookie.

Oh I am sorry to hear this. I have never had that problem before. Only thing I can think of is maybe your baking soda was old? But I will definitely revisit this recipe again and double check everything. Thank you for your review, I truly appreciate it!
