Instructions
This recipe could not be easier! Using a mix allows it to come together so quickly! Melt the caramels and some of the canned milk together. This makes a creamy caramel layer. Using the rest of milk, the dry mix, butter and pecans will make the base and topping layers. Pat half of the batter down into a 9x13 pan. Bake it slightly then sprinkle with chocolate chips. Add the yummy delicious caramel layer and then top with remaining dough. I like to put small pieces in my finger and press flat then lay on top....watch the video below! Then just bake! YUUUMMMMM!
Substitutions
Wrapped caramels and caramel bits are totally interchangeable in this recipe! Use what is convenient for you. I have made this both ways and love them the same!
Equipment
Baking supplies are a necessity and using good quality items are usually super important. You can definitely cut corners on some supplies, but baking sheets and heavy bottom sauce pans are super important! Check out my affiliate link to my favorite baking supplies HERE.

Turtle Brownies
Ingredients
- 11-14 oz. package of caramels
- ¾ cup melted butter
- ⅔ cup evaporated milk - divided
- 1 box German Chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Melt caramels with ⅓ c. evaporated milk in heavy saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until melted. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350°. Grease 9x13 pan. Or use parchment paper. Combine cake mix, remaining evaporated milk, butter and pecans. Stir until mixed. Press ½ of cake mixture into greased 9x13 pan and bake for 6 minutes at 350°. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Pour melted caramel evenly over top. Spread if desired so it’s evenly distributed. Spoon or crumble remaining cake mixture over caramel evenly. I like to press it slightly in my fingers before laying top so I have a more uniform top. Bake at 350° for 15-18 minutes. Cool. Refrigerate 30 minutes to set caramel. Cut into squares.
