Ingredients and Shopping List

  • butter
  • mini marshmallows
  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • white chocolate chips
  • oil
  • pink dye
  • sprinkles
  • lollipop sticks

Exact quantities in recipe card below.

Instructions

Begin by melting the butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat, then add the marshmallows and stir constantly until the mixture is completely smooth. Once melted, remove the pan from the heat and add in a drop or two of food coloring and stir quickly until desired color. Immediately stir in the cereal, mixing well until everything is evenly coated. Next, quickly transfer the mixture to a greased pan and gently spread it out into an even layer. While the mixture is still warm—but not hot—use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes, then carefully insert a lollipop stick into each one. After shaping, set the treats aside to cool and firm up. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate chips with the oil, stirring until smooth, and finally dip the back side of each Rice Krispie treat into the melted chocolate, allowing the excess to drip off before setting.

Equipment

Anyone can make this recipe! Which makes it so very easy. Having a good heavy bottom pot is an essential tool in the kitchen. I like to use a sheet pan for this recipe, however I don't spread the cereal mixture all the way to the edges. I keep it a little thicker so that my cookie cutters make a great thickness. Top Tip

Using a quarter sheet pan or a half sheet pan works great. If you use a half sheet pan do not spread to the edges so that it stays a good thickness.

When dipping into the chocolate I like to have a shallow dish of chocolate so that I can dip it quickly then lay on a parchment paper lined baking sheet to set.

Equipment

  • heavy bottom pot/dutch oven
  • spatula
  • parchment paper
  • Half Sheet Pan
  • Lolli pop sticks
  • pink food coloring

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 5 ½ cups mini marshmallows
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal slightly heaping
  • ¾ cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon olive oil
  • pink food coloring
  • valentine sprinkles

Instructions

  • Grease a quarter sheet to half sheet pan and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Melt butter in heavy sauce pan over medium high heat. Add marshmallows and melt until smooth while stirring constantly.
Once the marshmallows are melted remove from heat and quickly add a drop or two of coloring and stir until colored.
Add cereal and stir until all is coated and quickly remove to greased pan. Spread out smoothly. If using a half sheet pan then spread to desired thickness. You can stop short of edges by pushing with a spatula to edge it off. Cut shapes with cookie cutter while warm. Not hot. Sprinkle with sprinkles if using. Then add a lollipop stick. You will need to shape, then set aside to cool.
Melt chocolate chips and oil in a microwaveable bowl in 30 second increments and stir until smooth. Dip back side of treat into chocolate and lay on parchment lined baking sheet to set.

Notes

Plan ahead for how thick you would like your hearts. Gauge the thickness you need to spread the treats with the thickness of your cutter.
Using a gel food color helps with the brightness.
