Ingredients

  • canned biscuits (refrigerator section)
  • cinnamon sugar mixture
  • oil for frying

See exact quantities in recipe card below.

Instructions

While heating oil in a heavy bottom pot or high edge skillet, cut each biscuit into fourths. you can roll them just slightly to give them a more round appearance, but do not mess with them to much. You want them light and airy. Heat the oil to 325 degrees. Gently drop biscuit pieces into oil with a slotted spoon or spider strainer. working in batches fry the biscuits, gently turning over as they cook. Once they are golden and the oil bubbles start to subside pull them out and place on paper towel lined tray. Don't cool them completely. In a large baggie or a shallow bowl add the cinnamon sugar mixture. Drop the warm donuts in and toss in the sugar. If using a baggie do not zip closed. Remove the holes and add to a serving plate and serve immediately.

Equipment

Having a good heavy bottom pot is so convenient. You can use it for frying like this but also for soups, stews, large quantities of side dishes, roasts etc! Here is a link to one that you may like! I also love to use a spider strainer when frying. It helps avoid oil messes!

Top Tip

If using a baggie for the cinnamon sugar do not zip closed with the donuts inside. The steam gets trapped making them a little soggier.

Storage

These donuts are best eaten at the time they are made. I have tried reheating and they just are not great. But so delicious at the time they are HOT!

Serving

Serve along with milk, juice or hot chocolate! If you need more of a breakfast and not a snack make one of these recipes to serve along side! Sausage and Potato Breakfast Casserole, Sausage and Egg Crescent Ring, Egg in a Hole.
