See exact quantities in recipe card below.

Instructions

Making homemade hummus couldn’t be easier! First, drain the chickpeas, but be sure to reserve the liquid from the can. Next, add the chickpeas along with the remaining ingredients to a food processor. Then process for a couple of minutes until everything begins to blend together, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

If the hummus seems too thick, gradually add some of the reserved chickpea liquid, about one tablespoon at a time, to help create a smoother texture. After that, continue processing the mixture for about 5 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape the sides and add a little more liquid if necessary.

Finally, once the hummus is completely smooth and creamy, transfer it to a serving bowl. Enjoy it right away, or store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Serving

This hummus is perfect all on its own with some crackers or pita bread. However, if you want a little something extra then I have got a couple great tips! We love to spread it on a dish in a thick layer. Then drizzle a good quality olive oil over the hummus. Next, sprinkle with a little smoked paprika and some parsley. This is personally my favorite way! However, regular paprika is great too! You can even add a bit of oregano if you like like that flavor as well! Use veggies as dippers too!

Equipment

The equipment needed for this recipe is minimal! I absolutely love using my food processor for this recipe. It comes together quick! A lemon juicer is helpful too!

Top Tips

  • When using tahini be sure and stir the jar well before measuring out.
  • Rub the lemon before juicing to maximize the juice.
  • Good quality olive oil is important for this recipe.
  • Process until you achieve the smoothness you desire. Don't be afraid of adding left over chick pea liquid.
